Bargains and Little Green Surprises

Bank Holiday Monday involved a car boot sale where I bagged a couple of lovely bargains.  This was £2.

Isn't that a lovely sentiment ~ We cannot all do great things for the world but we can do small things with great love.  I need to take it to bits and repair a few of the stitches; even though it's rather shabby I like it!

I am another collector of Ladybird Books.  I grabbed these few at the boot sale, the guy selling them was charging 20p each a few weeks ago but he has cottoned on and now they are £1 each.  I was still happy to pay that though and I had to reign in my excitement when I saw the Cinderella Book.

I have been after this for ages, I had this as a girl and used to pour over and over the beautiful frocks, I remember this vividly from being tiny and I wanted that Blue frock soooo badly.

On the way home I popped into the supermarket and bagged me this bouquet for 75p! (the purple ribbon is from a box of chocolates; i'm such a hoarder)

On to the surprises ~ I know I should not be amazed but I am; I grew stuff!

Little butterfly flowers just peeking through the soil:

Just look at the sweet peas on the right, they sprang out of nowhere in a couple of days - they are now in their own little pots.
Thanks again Gill for getting me inspired to grow x

I have had lots of lovely comments and a few emails about my little hexie cushion.  It's so simple to do and such a good use of the odd scraps of fabric you have lying about that I thought I would do a simple tutorial to show you how it's done.  I'll be back with that one later in the week.

I loved that Puss In Boots book when I was a little 'un. Never very keen on princesses though. Well done on the planting! xxx

I remember loving the cinderella book- the illustrations really concentrate on the fabric and how it folds and shines- great finds

Another one that remembers the Cinderella book - those illustrations are so memorable. I've been collecting a few Ladybird books too, the reading ones with Peter & Jane. They do seem strange now.

It's amazing how excited you can get over growing your own plants isn't it.
Now you can say"I grew them from seed you know" which I find myself doing.

I've got an embroidery very similar in style to that, with what looks to be the same frame and border background. Different verse, but lovely all the same. Must have been the day for ladybird books, I managed to get some as well!

My seedlings have really taken off too - great to see yours looking good! I'm such a novice with it all and still find it rather intimidating. Love your car boot bargains, especially that sign x

Those sweet peas are zooming away aren't they? Must be so satisfying to watch them grow.

I love the sentiment in the stitching. Think I could do with remembering that at the moment - am feeling a bit gloomy and underachievey.

It's amazing when my kids were little they had hundreds of those ladybird books as my Mum was a teacher and drilled into me how important books are for children. But when they got bigger I gave/threw them all away! Boy am I kicking myself now! I have decided never to throw/give anything away ever again. But when I get to the stage that I can't open my front door for stuff stacked everywhere I might have to have a rethink lol
Eagerly waiting the hexie tutorial.
