Well day 6 of back pain and I'm bored of it now. The only time I get relief is when I'm sat still, this however lends itself to copious quantities of movies and hand crafts.
I made a start on my cushion tapestry just after Christmas and in these last few days I've completed it!
I must have spent about 50 hours on it so far but it's done! I have not been able to use my new sewing machine as it requires lots of moving about and leg movements (which hurt) so it's not yet a cushion, but I will be sure to show it when it is.
Once I completed that I scoured the room for other things I could do from my sofa and my crochet jumped up and waved at me. I really feel I should keep pecking away at this.
I love this tin!
These are little squares to make up the Springtime Throw from the Cute & Easy Crochet book.
Image of the throw from the book.
Poor thing; I've neglected these little squares for a while. I dedicated today to it and got a few more made up.
I'm now in a bit of a dilemma.
I'm so impatient, I started these last Summer whilst on holiday and to date I have 96 little squares. As you can see from my photo 96 squares do not add up to much size wise, I've shown them against an average sized cushion.
The instructions call for 432 squares in total, so I'm not even a quarter of the way there!
I've kept all the ends too!
So what do I do? Do I plod on for another two years or do I give up and make a cushion? I'm thinking if I make some larger squares I can mix them up and get there a bit quicker. I would love to see this at the bottom of my bed.
What do you think should I plod on and make the throw, or cave in and make a cushion?
I'd be interested in your opinions?

Why cave in just to see it completed? Make what you LOVE.
Keep at it chick, will be so worth it in the end.
That said, I know I'd caveand make a cushion but as I can't crochet that aint ever going to happen lol xx
beautiful crochet quilts...love the cushion too...lots of wonderful books there too for sources of inspiration...i hope your back eases my sweet xxxx
If you are still happy with the squares I would keep going and make the blanket. There is nothing saying you have to make it exactly the same size as the book you could always make it a little smaller x x x x
You have got to go for the quilt or you will regret it everytime you look at the picture in the book. Dev x
Cushion every time! don't get bogged down, start something else and enjoy the finish, jennyx
I think I would go for the cushion, that's if I could crochet!
My first opinion is that you need to send me that tin you're keeping your squares in!
You could make differently sized squares and make a very patchworky mish-mosh creation. But if you really love that blanket then you should keep at it, long as the road may seem (and this is coming from me, who loves quick finishes :)
i would say go for the throw - you'll feel such a sense of achievement everytime you look at it when it's done..
also, could you teach me to crochet please :)
I have a similar dilemma with crochet hexagons but I think I'm going to go for a blanket.
Yeah I would say keep at it! Even though it will take a lot longer, it will look so much better in the end and will be what you want it to be :)
You have been busy..i hope your back gets better soon x hugs Clare x
I think you should keep on making the little squares for the throw. This could be your 5 min or so project ie everytime you have a little bit of time to spare but not enough to do anything substantial you could make another square, and before you know it it'll be done!! After all you just need to do one a day and you'll have it finished for xmas!!
LMAO
Hope your feeling better soon but in the mean time keep on crocheting!
Big Hugs
Pene
I think you should keep going and make a gorgeous throw! You will love it more than a cushion and will be much more special because of all the hard work you put in! xxx
Keep going Kandi. I love that throw. I NEED that crochet book.
Dx
Quilting has taught me patience like nothing else has! Put it away and come back to it when it wont feel like a slog to complete it. It will be worth the wait! I wish I could make something like that but I dont know how to crochet!
Keep going with it, you'll be so proud when it is all done and it will look amazing! Hope you're feeling better soon xx
oooh love the cushion tapestry you made! 50 hours?! Gosh you're soo dilligent! and i love your russian doll biscuit tin, too cute!
If i were you i'd definitely continue making the throw! but i do understand your dilemma as i'm not so patient either! but the squares are soo adorable and it would be beautiful when it's finished as a throw/quilts....but whatever you decide, it'll still look cute even as a cushion!
xx susan
I really hope your back gets better ASAP! x
Stick to the original plan and make more squares. It's looking really good. I hope your back improves soon.
I think you should carry on with it. It needs to be a throw for you to drape at the bottom of your bed. Or perhaps even a small lap blanket for the sofa. Either way its beautiful xx
Oh wow those little granny squares are just so cute! I can't crochet so I am in complete awe of anyone that can! One of my closest friends just made me a giant granny square crochet blanket and it's just amazing! The russian doll tin is a great place to store them too! I saw that in M&S and was very tempted!
Hope you feel better soon.x
I'd say keep going, and aim to get it finished this year...set yourself a monthly square target to help you achieve it. And yes I agree your tin is beautiful. Hope your back is better soon x
I think a cushion would look really cute but I would try to get the throw done! You really want to see it at the end of your bed and every time you looked at your cushion you'd know it was supposed to be your throw!! You'll get there :-) Hope your back gets better soon!!
Carry on with the squares, 'cos you'll only wished you had if you don't! Besides I want to see YOUR crochet blanket!
Hope the back pain eases soon.
Gentle hugs,
Sandie xx
Beautiful, its such a shame you are stuck doing it while sore, but at least you are doing it, and the end result will remind you of how you kept going.
Its looking good so far, stick at it!
x
I would make them into a cushion and then make a throw with bigger squares. I made one of those squares and realised how tiny they were and gave up , you did a lot better than me :-)
Sorry to hear you're in so much pain, hope it eases very soon x
It may seem like a lot to keep going but 96 is such a good number to have already it would be a shame not to go for the blanket you originally wanted - I do like the idea of interspersing some bigger squares though to help the project along - Good luck with whatever you choose x
I just found your lovely blog!
This is a really hard question... I would say keep going, because that throw does look beautiful - but then again you also have to enjoy the time you spend making it!!! If you'll end up resenting the work, then it doesn't matter how pretty the product is! I guess what I'm saying is that you really have to consider your feelings about it. Either way, what you make will be lovely!
Feel better soon, best wishes from Sweden!
