Matroyshka Pouches

I love the new Kokka Folk Dolls fabric I bought recently from Fancy Moon. I was a little sad to cut it to be honest, but I am glad I did. I made a couple of lovely good sized pouches, I added the cotton lace and ribbon as it has a kind of folky feel to it and added some of my precious buttons.

I scoured my stash for some of the last of my little milliefiori hearts to add to the zip pulls.

I really don't want to part with these, I do love russian dolls. I made another lovely thing with this fabric I will share that once I finish it off, need to pop to the supermarket first...

Owls

Not quite sure how, but I appear to have developed a little thing for owls.
I loved this owl fabric from fabric rehab and made a little purse lined with lovely felt from the beautiful Annie, I thought this would be a nice way to stash my phone or ipod as the felt lining will protect it. I like to keep my memory sticks in a little pouch too. I must say it was very hard to turn through with having a felt lining (hence the oddly angled top).

I then made a couple of larger pouches, that would be a good size for a hearty makeup bag or a general store it all, which I use you know the thing, pens, chewing gum, painkillers etc.

Again I used owls, the Michael Miller Hoot fabric, I love it, check out his little face...

Not Much Time for Sewing…

I have had an odd couple of weeks for sewing, things have been so hectic at work that I am getting in exhausted and finding it hard to find the time to get the sewing machine out, so last weekend I had to cram everything in that I wanted to do.
I have been craving sewing, isn’t that mad? I have been mending and altering clothes and bags so I feel like I have not really been creating anything.

In order to get my fix last weekend I made a makeup bag for my giveaway (and a spare one) in CK fabric, you know how I like to re-cycle stuff well I lined the bags with a Tesco Tea Towel.

This was such a pain to make as I was having an off day.
I snapped three needles (note to self, you can not sew through the metal part of a zip ~ I did this twice!!!), had to unpick a wonky seam and had to unpick one side of a zip sewn too close to the teeth! I added some beads to the zip pull and was too heavy handed with the pliers and smashed two little glass beads and had to take the loop off and start again from scratch. Aaaarrrggghhhhh!

I was so fed up, but I did persevere … see how much I love you guys?

As I had a couple of scraps left I made these simple greeting cards by sewing the material to the card with a zig zag stitch, and adding a little heart button.

This week I also made a very boring plain cotton cover for the extra seat cushion on mum’s chair (to raise her up whilst her poorly leg is mending), as it took me hours to do (it was huge!) I feel I need to post a picture even though it is totally uninspiring; however, she was delighted with it:

As the CK fabric has all but run out I will be forcing myself to make something different, watch this CK free space…

Little Shopping Triumphs and Little Disasters..

Friday lunchtime I popped out to a craft shop about 20 mins from where I work (Dainty Supplies, Washington, Tyne & Wear). I needed a couple of zips and ended up coming out with a little stash!
I just had a little luck at the fabric and came away with a few fat quarters to add to my pile. Once home I spent an hour sorting through my fabrics and ribbons as it was becoming a real mess, I knew there was stuff I had bought but I couldn’t find it so it was time for a proper tidy up. Nothing constructive came of it other than seeing fabrics that I had not seen for ages which gave me a few ideas.

Today I set to making more makeup bags with my spotty fabric:

After this I did a couple of hearts from my scraps bag, using the template from the Tilda book and this is my first official sewing disaster, I am prepared to take the shame though; look at the state of this!!

I stuffed it with stuffing and lavender though so at least it smells nice, I think I'll stuff it away in the back of one of my drawers as a scented drawer pad - note to self must try harder!
