Mess

I'm not generally a messy person but this craft lark plus a small house full of people means that mess is inevitable!

Most of my crafty stuff is stashed in my bedroom but I have a little box with my current stuff in that travels about the house with me, well this grew and grew into this pile in the corner!

I saw this sexy plastic trolley in Aldi last week (I think it's for vegetables) so I thought that might do to get my mess sorted.

It works a treat, I roll it round the house like a crafty demented trolly dolly and even though you wouldn't know to look at it I now know where everything is!

I'm quite pleased with my bit self, I even pimped it with crochet flowers.  When we get company I will scuttle away and hide it upstairs, promise.

I feel the need to note that I'm currently poorly sick, I've got a cold; and as a rule I don't get colds.  

You know when you feel like you have an egg stuck in your throat and you are hot then cold, and you ache in places you have not even seen for years ~ well that!  

I just don't have time to be ill there are so many things I want to do, I have booked a day off work on Friday so I might throw myself into my illness then...

....Sympathy now please :0)

My adventures in crochet

Well its been a rough couple of weeks, I have been taking medication that has left me feeling like a dizzy zombie and I have had zero energy for a couple of weeks now. As a result I have not been making anything, I have been getting home from work, cooking, and collapsing on the couch until bedtime.
One thing I have been able to do is crochet, it requires little effort on my part and my bum does not have to leave the couch, so that is what I have been pottering on with.
Remember on holiday whey I taught myself to crochet, well I wanted to do a round cushion and came up with this:

It looks all well and good until you look closer; I followed instruction on how to crochet in the round and kind of made the pattern up as I went along really as the instructions ended at the third row. I guessed at how to increase, as a result it came out wrong.

Have a look at the extra bit, I would have to fold it over to make it into a true circle and that is just no good.

Goodness only knows what I am going to do with this, perhaps a mini blanket for the cat, I'm sure she will be quite happy with the wonkyness?!?!

I have since followed instructions on how to do this properly and I have produced this:

I am much happier with this one it is actually round. I am not terribly happy with the seam that appears in there, I must be doing something wrong when I start a new row each time I will have to look into this but for now I am quite pleased with it.

I followed Lucy's pattern from Attic24 that the lovely Amanda guided me to (thanks Lucy and Amanda). I am rather pleased with my shell edging though and I found these little round duck feather cushions at Dunelm Mill last week which will be perfect for this job. So here it is all done and dusted and I plan for this to live on my bed.

Once I get my energy back and some inspiration I might start on a crochet throw for the bottom of my bed, I love them but I think it might be too big an undertaking for me, perhaps granny squares might be the way to go... watch this space.

Poorly Tums and Patriotism

Well Monday was not a good day in some ways. I woke up feeling rubbish, I had been up most of the night with a poorly tum (say no more) and sickness so I was shattered! Due to the desperate need for sleep I rang in sick at work ~ something that I hate doing. So, I went back to bed and slept the morning away pretty much and after lunch started to feel a little better, so I got my fabric out and started pottering.

I keep meaning to publish a list of things I want to make at the side of my blog but have never found the time to do it (perhaps tomorrow), but one of the things that I have really wanted to do was a Union Jack Cushion or Makeup Bag.

As I battled through my illness (don't snigger) in true British fashion, stiff upper lip and all that, I decided that I would have a go today with what I could find in my stash.

Here is what I came up with:

A navy blue pillowcase, some ribbons, some old lace (from girls vintage dress), and some spotty red fabric from a fat quarter I bought a while ago.

Then I just followed my picture and made a flag:

If you are Scottish (my second favourite country) stop here ~ you are done! :)

While I had all the stuff out I made two at the same time.

My zips were ladies skirt zips and were a touch too short so I added to them.

The back is the red spotty fabric and the lining is the blue pillowcase:

My little bags just needed a little something extra so I added some 'crown jewels', in red white and blue of course:

I can see myself brandishing this at the last night of the proms singing along to Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 in D major (I have never actually been but it's one of my ambitions!).
