Baby Makes

My lovely friend brought a beautiful baby girl into the world last Friday.  Beautiful baby Sophie was so eagerly awaited and is such a blessing.
This little treasure gave me the opportunity to make a few little handmade items, no better excuse to make is there?  Sophie's nursery has a jungle theme so I made this little patchwork blanket for her to squiggle about on.

It is backed with the softest minky fleece and labelled with a dresden plate tag.

The minky was great for another baby project, this little minky rabbit made using a great little pattern from Mandy Shaw.

There were also knitting and crochet makes and a larger longer sewn project which is awaiting finishing touches, but what a pleasure it is to make for such a treasure.

I will add these into my monthly makes for September.

The Flickr group is filling up nicely and our lovely host is doing a great job so far.

Right back to the decorating *sigh*...

Stitch at Home ~ Make No 2.

As promised I am here to share my little sewing cottage case that I made from this lovely little book by Mandy Shaw of Dandelion Designs.

I have to admit to not following the instructions in the book to the letter (I never do!) I did use the templates and made it from the photos.

It has lots of space for my little bits and bobs, scissors, thread, tape measure, pins, tags, thread ...

I just love it, I love to make useful things, things that I can actually wear or use and I will use this all the time.

I have found a home for it in my bag of 'stitchy things that are ongoing' - each packet is part of a different project that I am currently on with (about 6 or 7 things in there!).

I can see me making a few more of these, it did take quite a long time but I did enjoy it.  I will be submitting this as my April Monthly Make.

A Monthly Make March 2012, and a few buys...

Well I'm gonna come running in at the very end of the month and skid to a flustered halt to present my March 2012 monthly make.  This is pretty much the only thing I have completed this month, my Christmas Quilt Stitchery.

I obviously have to turn it into a quilt at some stage but that will be sometime towards the end of the year.

Following my visit to Sewing for pleasure last week at the NEC I attended Pins and Needles today with my friend Nic.  This year it was held at the Newcastle Racecourse which was a much better venue than the aircraft hanger style arena where it usually is.

(I did take some nice photos of the venue and the knitted underwater display which was amazing, I will blog these another time as this post is rather photo heavy already.)

We had fun and I stocked up on some gorgeous fabrics, this little lot were from Just Quilting

This little (*cough*) pile was from Images of Egypt

and here is an array of other bits and bobs, including some quilting gloves, buttons, threads, patterns and hoops.

Check out my giant button, I love it, bought from Button's Boutique.

This is my favourite buy of the day, it's a cross stitch pattern in the shape of a sewing machine.  I did see this at Birmingham and hummed and harred, but I snapped it up today.  I'm thinking of sewing it in various shades of dusky pinks and greys but I've not decided yet.

Well all shopped out I came home to a lovely parcel from Emma Bear Forever in the form of these two lovely grey squares.  Thanks again Emma.

Next weekend will be my two year blogiversary, and so I am planning a little giveaway, stay tuned!

Monthly Make February 2012

I have been crafting a little recently but I couldn't show until now as I was making this as a gift for a friend's birthday last week.

 Handmade Hexie Knitting Bag
This took me lots of hours but it was a labour of love as it was for my friend Lynda who I know is in need of more knitting bags (she is the knitting queen you know).
I do love working with hexies though, it was a real pleasure.

As we are nearing the end of this month I will enter this as my February monthly make over at Annies.

I am still pottering with my crochet squares and I will start posting out once I have a few more ready.

Till next time lovely ladies ...

Monthly Make January 2012

Well, now I'm mobile once again I have been sewing and turned my tapestry into a cushion.

I do love this, I bought the kit on a wonderful day out with my two friends Lynda and Beki, and I spent many hours chilled out over the Christmas period sewing this.  My back pain kicked in just after Christmas so this was a welcome 'sat still' distraction.

In total I think the tapestry took about 50-60 hours and it took about half an hour to turn it into a cushion.

I snaffled up some cotton duck in the Cath Kidston online sale and used that as my backing.

Generally when I make cushions I always add a zip and I have never made an envelope style cushion I thought it was a cop out for people scared of zips, but I'm a convert, it's just fine.

I did try a few variations and it seems a 4" overlap is what works best for me.  So simple to do, this will half the time it takes me to make any future cushions.

I would like to enter this as my Monthly Make for January 2012, I have popped a photo over in the Flickr file.

~A Monthly Make 2011 ~

I signed up to complete a Monthly Make with 'Annie The Felt Fairy'; and as January is creeping on I am finding myself with very little to actually show.

Of the things I have made many of them are unfinished, including three different cushion covers, a little pile of crochet granny squares, some larger 'Crochet-a-long' squares for the Ravelry throw ~ but nothing complete. The bits that I have completed are for gifts for the birthday swap and the Spread the Bloggy Love swap, so I can't show them here just yet.

So after all my excuses, here is my little offering for January 2011, two large flower brooches made with the last of the Rowan pure wool I had left over from the scarf I made at Christmas.

I added a few pearls (lovingly snipped off a rubbish necklace I had) to spice it up a bit, and then made another exactly the same. They are rather big and heavy and will probably only be suitable for a coat, jacket or heavy cardie ~ I think one might go well on my grey wool coat.

I have dusted the sewing machine off and made some fabric bits this last week, I will have to show you them soon.
