Felty Brooch Makes

I'm just gonna sneak in here and get my May Monthly Makes in on the last day of the month!

I've been doing a bit of hand sewing this week or so and that included these little pretties.  I have a thing for brooches, and as soon as I made these I added the trusty brooch backs to them.

 

Using felt in what I would describe as 'Ice Cream' colours these just made me smile.  

I have given these ones all away now, I meant to keep one for myself, I'll have to get the felt back out.

Another little make was this bunting and cushion.  A friend at work asked about how best to make bunting so I offered my services.  It was a pleasure making pretty pink stuff for a little girl's bedroom with four boys it's something I've never had the chance to do.

 

I was given the fabric left over from the bedroom curtains and I made this double sided bunting.


Everywhere looks better with bunting I think!


The way I cut the fabric to try to get a decent pattern on each flag didn't leave much fabric but I was able to salvage some squares so I made a patchwork cushion to match.


As I am cushion mad I will enter this as my May Monthly Make.

Penny Blossoms

I've not been well this week; nothing serious (I hope) just been feeling really queezy and very dizzy ~ falling over dizzy.  I'm fine when sat still so I have been keeping myself very still and occupied with a little crochet.  I started making these flowers a couple of weeks ago now, I made them up as I went and found the pattern quite simple but sweet.

Using my favourite Sublime Merion Baby Cashmere Silk yarn which is soft as can be, I knocked these flowers out.  At the time I wasn't sure what to do with them, I contemplated sewing them all to a cushion but then decided as I had a huge bag of brooch backs I would make them into brooches.

I added a lovely creamy/white matt pearl in the middle of them and I think they are quite sweet.

For this last one I creatively turned the flower for the bottom layer and reversed the pattern to give a bit of interest to the petals (read ~ buggered up, but I quite liked it).

nb. Hubby calls them my Penny Blossoms and urged me to sing sea shanties as I was making them ~ fans of the Big Bang Theory will know what I mean :)

Bethany is my handmade bag hero from Philidelphia, her sewing talents are incredible. If I lived closer I would be camped out on her porch with my nose to the glass (in a non creepy way) begging for sewing lessons.

I contacted the wonderful Angie of Artwork by Angie as I was in desperate need of a blog tidy up and a new header.  I also wanted a header for my shiny new Folksy shop, and not knowing where to start and not having the time/skills to do it myself Angie jumped in and made this for me.  I gave Angie ideas of the colours and styles I liked and she created this from scratch ~ I was well impressed I think it's very me :)

(The shop is still not ready but I am working on it, I hope to have it stocked over Easter).  

Pop over and have a look at what Angie does, she is a super talented, friendly lady and worth every penny ~ thanks lovely lady x

Back on the subject of crafty things; I did make a start on some knitted and crochet flowers from this book I got my hands on a few weeks ago.

The thing is; even though they are tiny they take ages, well the more complex ones do, perhaps it's just me?

Not entirely sure what I will do with them once I have them all done, I was contemplating a cushion (never, I hear you cry) with them sewn on all over to plonk on my bed.

I made a little pile of them but stole a couple to make into brooches as they were quite cute.

This one is currently residing on my denim jacket. Right must crack on and get some more flowers made or this will be the longest work in progress ever! 

Back soon with my latest crochet cushion finally finished.

~A Monthly Make 2011 ~

I signed up to complete a Monthly Make with 'Annie The Felt Fairy'; and as January is creeping on I am finding myself with very little to actually show.

Of the things I have made many of them are unfinished, including three different cushion covers, a little pile of crochet granny squares, some larger 'Crochet-a-long' squares for the Ravelry throw ~ but nothing complete. The bits that I have completed are for gifts for the birthday swap and the Spread the Bloggy Love swap, so I can't show them here just yet.

So after all my excuses, here is my little offering for January 2011, two large flower brooches made with the last of the Rowan pure wool I had left over from the scarf I made at Christmas.

I added a few pearls (lovingly snipped off a rubbish necklace I had) to spice it up a bit, and then made another exactly the same. They are rather big and heavy and will probably only be suitable for a coat, jacket or heavy cardie ~ I think one might go well on my grey wool coat.

I have dusted the sewing machine off and made some fabric bits this last week, I will have to show you them soon.
